Broadband Modem Types
We have a large number of customers asking which modems thay can buy for use with our service. As we get experience (good or bad) with different models we will add them to this list.
Please note if you are going to buy your own modem for use on a critical system in Solomon Islands, supply a preconfigured spare. The aggressive environmental conditions (such as lightning, humidity, dust, power and finger trouble) combined with low build quality (most modems are built down to a price and only for developed-world conditions) lead to an extraordinary rate of failures.
Products which are banned on our network
Micronet SP3350A ADSL Modem / Router
D-Link DSL-502T ADSL Router. Can enable DHCP on WAN.
Products we know give customers problems
Symantec SOHO Firewall in PPPoE mode (works OK in standard mode)
Micronet SP3350A ADSL Modem / Router. Banned.
D-Link DSL-502T ADSL Router. Banned.
D-Link DI-624. Certain hardware revisions will not authenicate PPPoE on our
network (do not understand domain suffixes). Can still be used as wireless AP but
will require additional router.
